We're doing Auntie Mame - does anybody know how to make a "Flaming Mame," the flaming drink in the show? Safer alternatives are much preferred.

Ideas and suggestions anyone???

Thanks!!!!

You won't get flames but hot water and a small piece of dry ice will make a smoking drink. I have used this trick many times, works great! no flames though

When I did tech for this show, I made the Flaming Mames by using a little bit of flash paper in the glass (no liquid). You can get this at any place that sells magic supplies.

In case you haven't used it before, flash paper/flash cotton is meant to produce a quick puff of flame when you light it. It is safe enough to burn in your hand without injury (it consumes itself so quickly that it produces little heat). Of course, read all instructions, be careful, yadda, yadda. A little flash paper goes a long way! A 2 inch X 2 inch size piece will produce about a 1 foot fireball, which is more than enough.

we also used flash paper for the Flaming Mames - and it also
was great for the Kickapoo Joy Juice in Li'l Abner.

that flash paper is terrific stuff. LOL

I like flash cotton even better. The flame is a little bit brighter, and it burns faster. Both work fine, but the cotton is slightly easier to work with.

It is a fun pyrotechnic to play with. Get a ring sparker (magic supply), and some flash cotton. It's a really cool effect to make a fireball appear when you snap your fingers!
