We are currently in the process of updating our website and we wish to show pictures of current and past productions on our site. I am looking to see how other theatres approach this subject.

1. In order to place pictures of a show on your theatre website do you have individuals sign a release form that allows a webmaster to post their picture or show picture in which they appear on the website?  Do you have a release form for children?

2. Is there a theatre that post short videos (15 to 30 second) of their current or past plays?  How do you handle copyrights?

3. Are there other locations on the Internet that discuss this issue?

I would like to hear of your experiences with this subject and thank you in advance for those that post information

Having a photo release form is a very good idea, especially when children are involved. My theater has just started a policy of getting a release from everyone in the shows. You probably want to create a blanket publicity photo release form spelling out what you theater will do with the pictures, eg. web, newspapers, future brochures, etc.

As to the question about showing clips of the show on the web, I would contact the company that holds the rights for each show and find out thier policy.

This is a good place to discuss things, and also the AACT ( http://www.aact.org - www.aact.org ) web site discussion fourms.

My company does a broadly worded photo release form for every cast member for every show.  Children under 18 must have the form signed by a parent.  We do not post videos.

If you are looking to sell tickets on your website I may be able to help you.  I'm trying to organize a community of small theater companies looking for easy ways to sell tickets online.  I'm going to start for free and then charge a percentage at some point.

If you're interested please contact me at mailto:aaron@localtheatertickets.com - aaron@localtheatertickets.com .

Cheers!

1. At the youth theater I act at, you and a parent must sign a release stating pictures are allowed to be in the newspaper, maquee, and website.

2. We do not have videos on our website. I don't think you would be allowed to do so with copyrights. It also would be hard to put on the website.
