i guess with the release of "les mis" to community theatres, there might more than one person who like me, is seeking ideas for building a stage turntable. ours will be about 18 or 20 feet in diameter. i pretty much understand the logistic of the concept but am curious as to where the "pie slice" method is more advisable than the method of using sections of 4 x 8 ply sandwiched with overlapped joints.
the later seems cheaper and much less trouble but i'm wondering about the aspect of stability and the problem of loading it onto the casters once built.
i've read toutorials on line for both methods but not much in the way of comments on which works best.
i'd like some input on this if anyone has "been there, done that".
