Hi,

We are putting our season together and Narnia, the musical is one of our picks. Has anyone done this show and if so what did you think?
We like it because it's a known title (especially with the movies that have come out the past few years), and it has roles that can accomodate lots of actors (male/female and age range).

Pros/cons? Challenges?
We have found the version published by Dramatist, do you know of any other versions of this show?

Thanks!

We just closed on Narnia, The Musical, published by Dramatic Publishing.  I played Tumnus.

It's an okay show, and I did enjoy it.  It needs some finesse to really play off well, and can easily play as INCREDIBLY cheesy.  The music is nice enough, but at times feels at odds with the tone of the dialogue.

I will admit, it can easily accommodate a large and diverse cast.  We had over 200 (yes, that's the asinine number TWO HUNDRED) in the cast, from about age five to seventy.

Oh, and as written, it does have some flaws.  If you have a bunch of extras playing Cruelies (bad guys), they don't get on stage during Act I.  We had to add a prologue showing Aslan leaving Narnia and the White Witch taking over so we could put the Cruelies on stage.  The show is quite long, as well... about 2.5 hours long (our added scene was only about 90 seconds and took place over the overture).

Anyway, there you go.  By the end, I enjoyed the show quite a bit, but it took some time for me to get truly excited about it.
