Topic: The Kitchen Witches Posted: 11/12/11 at 1:56am |
I've done a search and I can't find anything. Heck ... I'm not so sure I didn't post something like this years ago, but I'll be darned if I can find it, so here goes ...
Has anyone done The Kitchen Witches? It sounds like a really good premise, but I would like some feedback from anyone that has done the play. Were your houses good, audiences receptive, and was the feedback good? I have the script ordered and it should arrive next week, but I always like to get other opinions. Thanks |

I just received the script and I think it looks like something very well worth doing. Since we're a bit of a "Gypsy" type group that never seems to have the same home twice ... the set looks like it could be intimidating. We would have to find a way to simplify it ... but it most certainly looks fun.

Our script selection committee just read the show and was pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed it. It's one of the strong contenders for next season

One of the local community theaters did the show this past October. It was a funny show. You must have two very strong female leads as they carry the entire show. I don't know much about reception from audiences. When my husband and i went there were only about 45 people in the audience. But it is a small community, mostly elderly. Good Luck . . . It is a funny show!

Our small group performed Kitchen Witches as dinner theatre with great success. It was such a hit, we held it over an additional week. We simplified the set and performed in a very small space. I would be happy to expound if anyone wants further info! (I played Isobel...it was such fun to perform, as well!)

Please ... do share. I would be very interested in how you were able to control the set. We would very much like to do this show and the set will be more challenging than finding the talent. |

We had two L shaped flats on either side that served as the dressing rooms, we had a two part counter with shelving underneath that held many of the props. For the first act they were pushed together to create one long counter. For the second act, they were separated so Dolly and Isobel each had their own counter for the contest, and we put a small table and chair between them for the "judge". We pushed them together again for the final scene. Because space was so limited, we couldn't have a cooktop or refrigerator. We had an electric skillet for the opening scene, and used a small cabinet for the refrigerator; no one seemed to question that it wasn't realistic! The son used a podium, which took up very little space.
The whole stage area was only about 25 feet wide and not more than 9 feet deep. If you have more specific questions, ask away!

By any chance do you have any photos or the show or a video?
I just read this while speaking to one of the actors and the fact that the show can be done with less is very interesting. Thanks so much for the information. |
