Topic: Need A Good Comedy Posted: 11/01/11 at 1:23pm |
Next year our group with celebrate 20 years. Its a huge milestone for us, we have been through many hardships as a group and always managed to pull through and still put on quality productions.
We are looking for a good comedy for our summer show and a good musical for our fall production. Preferably something recognizable, we always have good luck with Neil Simon. We need to keep the royalty price reasonable and the cast size cant be too big. any suggestions are most welcome. |

"Odd Couple" (either version), "Noises Off", "Funny Money", "Lend Me a Tenor", "Squirrel Lake", Anything by Pat Cook, "39 Steps", or "The Foreigner"....

I swear if I had the funding I'd just open up the Pat Cook Theatre Co.
Barbequing Hamlet was a good show and the script for Luau for King Lear read good as well. We did the female version of the Odd Couple and it went over great. We had two really strong gals for that show and it helped. |

we just did odd couple female version last year to great response. We did lend me a tenor a few years back, also to great response. I will look in to the others. Thanks for the suggestions!

For the musical, let me violate one of your list and suggest something a little newer: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Did this a little over a year ago at a church, and it was a tremendous success, both in terms of response and attendance.
You really need to see the show to get it, though, it's strength isn't readily apparent via the recording, it's in the characters. Cast is only 9 (5m/4f), all but one m sing, and he (and preferably one of the F) should be strong at improv, or at least able to think on his/their feet and handle a somewhat fluid show. It's truly a treat. |

I have been with our community theater for 14 years. The highest attendance comedy was LOVE, SEX & the IRS.

"Love, Sex and the IRS" was the first show our group ever sold out. Of course, we put it on in mid-April, too, so the timing was exactly perfect. Highly recommended. A real crowd pleaser!

Please take a look at my "Hello, Is There Any Body There?" - very different, quaintly British and performed to good reviews all over the world. Email me and I'll send you a pdf.

The Full Monty, funny, funny and should be done with minimal set changes, only a few seconds to execute. We are in the middle of a run and it is a huge seller.
