How have you simulated torches for Evita? Thanks for all ideas. Tom

I'd try starting from a flashlight. some colored gel and some kind of plastic 'flame'. What would one use to sculpt that? something sculpted out of clear silicon caulk maybe? the easy part is to wrap the flashlight handles with some brown fabric and jute twine or some such to look more organic.
anyone have thoughts on flames that could dance? somehow incorporate tiny fans and use silk flames? |

sorry if this is too late to help, but at least it will be here for reference.
I haven't done Evita so I don't know exactly what is required, but would this work? http://www.amazon.com/Olympic-Flame-Costume-Decoration-Battery/dp/B002YXZO0M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1306357336&sr=8-1 These are probably not much more expensive than making something, and they are surprisingly realistic. I was recently sitting during a rehearsal testing some old ones to make sure they worked, and at least two different people commented to me that out of the corner of their eye they had thought something was really on fire, and that was in a well lit, relatively small room. Also if you needed a different look than the polished bronze you could always use didj1028's idea to wrap in fabric and twine. |

For Beauty and the Beast, we bought battery operated torches from Theater House. They worked and looked great!
