Topic: British Accent Help Posted: 10/15/10 at 5:39pm |
I got a callback for Bedroom Farce but I'm shaky at best with a British accent. I can do ok if I'm alone but when the nerves get the best of me in front of other people, my accent is all over the place. I haven't even narrowed down a particular dialect, I'm just trying to grasp the basics.
The callback is tomorrow. I've been practicing as much as possible...watching British programming, interviews with British actors, walking around the house talking with an accent. Im going to try and download a podcast so I have something in the car with me. Any other suggestions? |

Check out this;-
Community Theater Green Room Discussion Board: Helping with EnglishThere is some good links that will help. I normaly just find a recording of a song sung in the accent required & sing it in my head prior to going on stage & doing the part. If it's s tooffee nosed Pohmy accent you require, get a recording of one of Noel Coward, say something like 'Don't put your daughter on the stage Mrs worthington'. He 'dpeak sings', which is great for pohmy dialogued. Just sing a few lines of it over & over & keep it in your head. Edited by JoeMc - 10/16/10 at 12:21am |

Jolly hockey sticks rather terribly whato ol' chum, golly gosh 'n all that!
Actualy another good one to get a hold of is by Stephen Fry as 'Jeeves', as he would be the modern epitome of the uppper crust POHMy [Prisoner Of His Majesty} Eatonian public [private] school system.
One thing is to keep up the accent even in normal conversation, everyone will think you have gone tropo but it will reinforce your accent & can even if to just advertise the show.
Chookas!
