Topic: controller for par and led light Posted: 12/14/09 at 12:03pm |
I want to add LED lights to our school theater set, but I have run into some snags . We already have the old fashion par 56 lights with dimmer packs. I want to add 8 leds into the mix. I've been told you can go from par 56 in the dimmer pack to the LED with a DMX cable and then back to a dimmer pack BUT the LED donot respond. Any suggestions?? We currently have an Elation 16 channel stage setter board the has DMX-512 capability. A new board may be the answer, but what will run all the par 56 ( we have 20 of them) and the LEDS ??

Yes, DMX LED fixtures and DMX dimmer packs can be Daisey-chained. Of course you have to set the address of the LED fixtures, to DMX channels that are compatible with the controller. In most consoles there is a patch function that allows you to assign the 512 DMX addresses to the 16 available console channels. You very likely have all of the channels tied up with the dimmer packs. You may need to combine some of those dimmer packs to make room for your new LED lights. LED lights need at least 3 DMX channels, and usually 4 or more. Did that make any sense?
