Topic: Nunsense The Mega Musical Posted: 6/23/09 at 1:40pm |
ok this is my first time posting here, i am on the board of directors for a small theatre group in upstate NY. we have a small theatre but great people. 10 years ago we did the original nunsense at our former location which is a little bigger than our current location. I am slated to direct Nunsense this fall (my first musical) and was wondering if anyone has done the Mega Musical version of Nunsense, is it much different? is it more difficult to produce? is it better than teh original? i have a very good musical director & choreagrapher so im not worried about that.
Any input is appreciated
Thanks

WOW!! NO responses and 21 views more or less. I guess the answer is no. But this is interesting. I have NOT heard of Nunsense Mega Musical before. We did it several times - years apart. Well NUNSENSE - NOT the Mega version. Haven't even heard about that. Goggin really went to town with this concept - actually in MY estimation a little too much. I mean there's what about 6 or 7 versions of this now? Overkill. In MY opinion he never topped the first one. To me it's still the best. Two wasn't bad musically - it was pretty good and improved musically over the first in my way of thinking. But going beyond that was just too much. The Jamboree is FUN but by then it was into overkill mode for me. The MeshugaNuns, and on and on and on just seemed to take it too far.
Hope you can find some response. I'd be interested to see what this is about. I'll have to look it up and see what the deal is with it. Sounds "interesting" I guess. Good luck.

thanks for the response, i just received the script and i am about half way through it. It has a bigger cast, the 5 core nuns and 5 others. Bigger musical score and the addition of a chorus. same set same premise, its pretty much the original Nunsense expanded slightly

Well that's interesting. I guess the original while still best, longed for a bit of expansion, more voices to "round out" the 5 women and give it a busier feel I suppose. Sounds like fun since it is still the original but on steroids!! HAHA!! Hope you enjoy it. Kind of cool since it now can include more women this way and really be fuller sounding. Must look it up and have a listen if they have any demo clips out there in this expanded format.
Thanks

I finished the script, it is pretty much the original show with an expanded cast. The only thing i dont liek about it is with teh expanded cast, some of the really funny lines & moments are given to supporting characters away from the 5 core nuns, i thinki we are going with the original script
