Topic: self-propelled boat Posted: 5/26/09 at 11:00pm |
hello group,
I am starting work on the set design for Peter Pan, but I have come to somewhat of a stopping point. In our production I need to find a way to animate a small boat to move across the stage and turn. I have had experience in the past simply pulling a platform across stage with a rope, but this would not work due to the fact that the boat must turn. I have had some thoughts of using the body of a golf cart. Has anyone tried this or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for your time! Daniel Cyrus |

Put it on a track that has the turn build in. Then pull it with the rope.
Or you can build it so that two stage hands are inside providing the power. They can follow spike marks on the floor made of glow tape.

Low tech is usually where I start, and making a Flintstone vehicle is usually pretty straightforward. Can a crew member be hidden inside and "walk" the vehicle around?

I have thought about doing that and I don't know how I would hide the crewmember I also don't know how the energy would be transferred to the boat IE with the crewmember simply lay on the floor and have holes cut for his arms and legs or is there another better way? I am open to doing this I am simply struggling as to how so any help would be much appreciated
