Topic: Fiddler on the Roof Junior

Has anyone done this with youth (ages 8-18) and was it successful? It seems such a difficult story line to be condensed as Junior versions are done. Does it flow well? I noticed the dream song is cut.... did they take it out completely?

Helped with costumes on this a few years ago with that age group...worked very well, but the dream scene cut was a disappointment, however, I am not sure the audience minded....the script takes care of the cut with the mention of the dream by Golde, I think. HOWEVER, Golde & Tevye carry most of the songs...leaves out several big solos! This is my favorite musical of all times, first seen on Broadway in the '70s, performed as Golde and Grandma Tzeidel, helped backstage and my son was Tevye once, so I think I can adequately recommend it....IF you have a strong Golde & Tevye. One plus, it is not the usual 3 hours long!

I agree on the strong Golde and Tevye - though the older girls get their numbers with their beaus- still a very male heavy show for our program, that still tends to attract way more girls than boys- lots of girls playing boys in our shows running around with false facial hair.

It's an ok show, but it does seem to rush through things, so you don't have the emotional attachment to the characters as much as the more fleshed out full production.
