I am working on a production of "Are We There Yet" with a group of middle schoolers and need SIMPLE ideas - kid friendly ideas for a covered wagon and car, both to seat 4 minimum (5 or 6 would be better).  I've seen lots of ideas for the greece car, which would be great, but too complicated and too expensive.  I need something a little more than just a facade, but less then a full blown car.  I have little wing space, but know that something like this would take most of it... as long as it's managable :)  I do want it to have sides, not concerned too much about having a back.  Both need to move on and off, but neither have to be "powered" in any way. 

We made a simple cart with a slot in the front.  Into the slot we were able to slide painted cutouts (made of luaan).  It worked really well, didn't take up too much room in the wings (aside from the cart), and the stagehands could hide behind the car to push it on and off the stage.

We did "Leader of the Pack" and had to have 4 cars that fit a boy and a girl each and could race around for dancing.  Our designer used a portion of a flat with wheels and attached a crate in the front and a crate in the back (to sit on).  The sides were painted not just like cars, but had wonderful designs/patterns on them.
