I'm directing a production of Harvey next summer. As an experiment, I've - er, Harvey has set up a MySpace page to promote the show, auditions, etc. (and also as an excuse to screw around with MySpace ).
Have a look and let me know what you all think.

Love it! I hope it brings good results for your production. You'll have to let us know, or well, maybe we'll have to keep an eye on the page! |

Good luck with it! We've been using Myspace to promote our shows for a little while, and so far it seems to be helping. I would suggest that you really add a lot of color and pics to your page though. Feel free to check out our myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/theeproject

Thanks for both of your comments.
I certainly plan on adding to it - as soon as I figure out what.
Debflo, I like your theatre's page, except for the text on the main page - I have a real hard time reading that black-on-grey combo. I particularly enjoy the slide show.

POB - thanks for the input. I'm still playing with the font and and colors. Maybe if I bold the text it would be easier to read? I'm also still gathering more pictures to make a larger slide show of more shows. The one on there is from our last production of 20th Century. The whole myspace theatre community is really growing. (At least here in Colorado) So I'm just trying to keep up with it all.

Very nice idea.
If the theater has a website, get someone from there to become a friend. Get the venue's link up there. And get them to link back. If it generates only a few ticket sales, it's worth it. As to the page content -- it's actually one of the more pleasant pages I've come across on MySpace. Harvey is a taciturn fellow. He wouldn't have a lot of flash and glam on his page. He wouldn't hit you with music or video without your permission, and would never assume that just because you visited his page you have given that permission. The only exception is for MySpace pages promoting a band, which was the original reason MySpace was created. If this catches on, it would be fun to gather a list of links for a particular show and see how different folks interpret the same character. |

Amen to that.
That would be fun!

I created a myspace to capture all the youth and try and get them to my website. Didn't work, so I now post important bulletins on both websities, but schedules just on my main one. http://www.myspace.com/spacecoasttheatre
I tried to get some of the same features on SCT as myspace, like messaging, friends, commenting on profile(profile book) and articles and personal blogs, but pulling people off myspace is HARD, but one of the best ways to promote.
Another way to promote is using Craigslist, here is an example i posted today http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/crg/370715741.html
Just go to Craigslist.com and look for your state/city
Good Luck!

Spacecoast - your myspace looks great! We are still learning the whole myspace and website thing (unfortunately our website is no where near as nice as yours!) I like the craigs list idea too. Good tips!
I have found that the Myspace works best for our "Teens Onstage" program moreso than our adult shows, but it does draw some.

Debflo - Thanks! Myspace is a cut and paste haven for web designers, it is a great tool for learning and using on your own webpages later. If there is something you want to add to myspace, just shoot an email.
Craigslist works well too, it gets your information on Google fast, so use Keywords in the craigslist title.
Update on my stuff:
I just added drop down banners on both of my theatre websites today to get peoples attention with out the pop-up blocker stopping it. pretty neat and basic feature
If anyone is bored during your next week, visit http://71.18.171.244/ and click the blue pictures under the video (really Kewl). My new website project i'm building for my boss, shoot me feedback on it!
Peace
