Hi. Our local theater guild is doing this show, a musical based on the life of Ellie Greenwich.
I'm the prop mistress. I've never seen this show before and have no idea what the "lips" are supposed to look like or be made out of.
Basically they're carried on by chorus girls who can walk through them. Does anyone have any ideas or better yet, pictures of it from a show they were involved in.

Well we did it a bit differently when we did it. (not carried) I took some luan and cut large lips, top and bottom separately. Then attached them to a bench we had. We just had them sitting in Chez Smooch and Ellie and Jeff just sat on them. Now that I think about it, we may have put casters on it and pulled it offstage at some point.
I had a teal and pinky/purple theme in the night club, so the lips were that same color and I put a clear glittery paint over it to spice it up a bit |

I'm not familiar with the show either, but the first thing to my mind is to build a sturdy, oval frame and attach spandex material to it, leaving an overlap in the middle for them to walk through. It could still be decorated for whatever realism you are looking for.

Thank you. I appreciate the help.
I'm hoping the bench thing is the case because that sounds simplest.
What is "luan"?
ETA: nevermind, I found luan online. I think I understand why that's a good choice...lightweight and can be formed.

Ok. Let me pick your brain on one more thing.
I have a couple of cameras cir. 1960's. They don't work. Any way you made a "flash" cheaply?

Found it!
In "And Then He Kissed Me", Jasmine and Pattie enter carrying a pair of giant lips, then as it goes off stage it's just Ellie and Jeff kissing. The "lips" couch is in the second act.

The two greatest days in a theater persons life, the day you start a new show and the day the damn thing closes.

We had "explosions" using a single flash strobe. I'm not sure how pricey it is. It uses a capacitor, but is fairly simple, and run from backstage. I'm sure you could use it for several things, including camera flash, if you had one. It has to be plugged in and charge the capacitor. You might want to discharge it after unplugging it.
