I have an Altman Voyager that keeps blowing lamps.  Last one lasted a half hour.  I have just taken over the lighting and sound at this theatre so all info is second-hand. I am also an electronics technician so I am currently fixing all the broken equipment left by the previous operators.

I believe the problem is probably the power supply.  A new one costs about $1100.00, and Altman lists a repair/exchange for around $750.00 but my distributor tells me that option is no longer available.  I have not confirmed this with Altman.

Does anyone know of a company that repairs these power supplies?

Does anyone know of anything else that could be causing premature lamp failure?  All the fans are working and clear, so I don't think it's heat related.

I just discovered this forum, and am new to theatre lighting.  THANK YOU for any help or suggestions.  I have a feeling I will be here a lot, reading the archives!!!

 I know nowt about the Altman lantern, but if everything else works, fans ect. It may be a simple fault shorting out just the bubble, as I would assume the power supply fires up the whole unit.
Could it be as simple as an uncourtly rated light source being replaced each time?
In some cases diagnosing it from just the point of the fault, can mask a simple problem, as in not being able to see the wood for the trees.

If you do contaminate the bubbles envelope by touching it. It is easily cleaned with alcohol, If that doesn?t solve it, you always resort to finishing off the rest of the bottle!
