Topic: land gift misappropriation. Posted: 8/29/06 at 4:09pm |
I am trying to see if there is anything the Board of our theater company can do about what we feel is a great injustice against our little non-profit theater company. Hoping someone here might have a clue. A number of years ago our company was gifted a large piece of property to be used for the furtherance of the Arts in our county. The talk was that this property would be sold to create a theater space for the company. The land could not be sold for quite awhile because another person had some rights to a portion of the land and refused to sell. Finally the land was sold and wer received several hundred thousand for it. At some point a Land Trust was set up by one of the Boards, then apparently the Land Trust was completely split away from our theater company and made a separete non-profit entity that cannot be accessed by our theater company. We have no control over the funds from the sale of land given to us, and that Board is apparently not responsible to us. I have talked to dozens of people who were around when we got the land ....it was supposed to be used for a theater. I was told by an original Board member from when the trust was formed and who is still currently on the Board and they say they sent out a notice and no one came, yet every member I have spoken to about this has NEVER heard of a mailing or notification of any kind about the disposition of the land. This property and the money from its sale was this companies future and it is now being used for other purposes. I recently asked for a grant from them and they did give us one for 3,000. But the Board and the members of the company are roaring mad about the whole thing. Does anyone have any similar experiences or have any suggestions, or knowledge about an issue like this? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
