I know it's this great feeling to have this passion and no one understands how you feel and they seem to only offer no hope towards your goal. Now is the time to hone your skills. You said you weren't the best singer, get some vocal training, keep taking acting lessons, take various dance classes, get involved with your local theater, and expand theater knowledge. Work backstage, direct, set design, light design, and anything that will expand your theater knowledge.
Be as prepared as you can be when you are ready to make the transition to professional theater. You may go now and get a part on broadway, but once the contract ends or the show closes you may spend a long time before you get another chance in another show.
It isn't fair, you want success now and no one is letting you grasp for it, but let's be real honest, High School Musical only happens in the movies or on TV. But if you prepare yourself, give yourself something to fall back on, the success can be yours.
Good luck and explain to your parents that you understand their concern and that you will work hard to get there even if it means you have to wait a little while longer, then get out there and learn!

The two greatest days in a theater persons life, the day you start a new show and the day the damn thing closes.

LOL - well, since I'm the director, I THINK I know the information!!
I'm auditioning 16 & up, except by special invitation. We'll be at Cuneen-Hackett, 12 Vassar St., Poughkeepsie. Auditions on Sunday, 21 September, from 12 noon - 5 PM. They MUST end at 5, because I have a 6:00 call in Monroe for a PIPPIN performance that evening! Be prepared to perform up to 32 bars of the song for the character you're auditioning for. How's that?

There's a little bit of diva in all of us. Some just have a larger helping than others.
