![]() Topic: Plays for women?Posted: 3/24/11 at 1:08pm |

The last 2 shows I've done have had very heavy male casts - and I'm looking for something with a lot of women's roles, hopefully a comedy. Doesn't have to be just women but would like the majority.

Can you be a bit more specific about numbers and length?
Are you talking full-length plays or would you include one-acts? What would be the ideal (or ideal range of) numbers of each gender? |

Try "Enchanted April" by Matthew Barber (Dramatists Play Service)
5 Women (1 in her 20's, 2 in their 30's, 2 @ 60-plus) 3 Men (1 in his 20's, 2 in their 30's) A touching comedy about solving marital problems. |

How about Clare Booth Luce's The Women. All ages from little girl to grandma. We had a riot with this show!

We did the female version of the Odd Couple, 2 M - 6 F, I believe. We sold out every night with great reviews.

The Women is definitely a great show, but it's a huge cast. On the classics front, Lysistrata is really very funny and there are some public domain versions available.
For a smaller show, I worked on Crimes of the Heart about a year ago and it was very well received. Not exactly a comedy, but not without some very, very funny parts. |

I don't know how you feel about musicals, but A ... My Name is Alice and the sequel A ... My Name Will Always Be Alice both have a lot of humor to them, and a few serious moments, too.
