Topic: LED vs Conventional Posted: 2/18/07 at 10:02pm |
I am looking for someone who can compare LED color changing Par Cans to 'conventional' color changing Par Cans.....
Surprisingly, I have found new LED lights cheaper, but not gonna cut costs if the quality is less as well.... Any help? |

I think you will find more light output from the conventionals. I work for a theatrical supplier and we are finding less output with the LED's. We feel that in a few years LED's will be a lot more common in theatre, but right now they are not getting the output needed for the stage. It also depends on who makes the fixtrue and what the wattage is. I would call your local supplier and talk with their sales staff. We bring demo fixture in for people all thim. Maybe someone local to you can do the same and you can test both types in your space. Good luck!

Many of the new LED fixtures have tremendous output (I've only used ColorBlasts personally). However from my experience, and I think others will agree with me, LED fixtures don't mix well with conventionals. The same way many moving light beams stick out because they aren't an incandescent source, LED's produce colors that don't match well with pars or source 4's on the same area. IMO, you sort of need to use all LED's, or none at all.
