Topic: Ideas for 90-minute plays Posted: 1/03/07 at 2:16pm |
As some of you may know, I was planning on directing the play Harvey at a local Fringe Festival. Well, that idea is scrapped, due to the fact that Dramatists will not allow me to cut it. The spot I have at Fringe is 90 minutes. Can anyone recommend plays that are about this time length? Last year we did Flowers For Algernon and Harvey was the plan for this year, so I am looking for plays that, more or less, are for a general audience and heartwarming, for lack of a better word. Thanks. |

It depends. Are you looking for a "family" show, or just a strait play comedy?

Not neccessarily a"family" show, but nothing that would have content beyond PG-13.

We had great success with "Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All for You". But, it's not necessarily "heartwarming"....
You could try "The Actor's Nightmare", also by Cristopher Durang. It's funnier and a great take on theatre.
Both shows do not require fixed set pieces (i.e., door units) and have minimal props. Very easy travel shows.

One idea I had was to do a group of 1-acts/short plays that are similar in theme. There's a play called Snapshots which is a bunch of scenes written by different writers. The writers were shown a picture of Mt Rushmore, and told to draw inspiration from that picture. That is the only connection the pieces have. While I am not to fond of that particular collection, it would be interesting to find something similar to that concept.
