Topic: Need suggestions for a show Posted: 10/20/06 at 3:24pm |
I would like some suggestions for a show for the spring. My requirements: children's theatre (this time I'm casting 8-18 yrs old), mostly girls, small cast, something "familiar" to everyone (I'm thinking fairy tales; perhaps a good Cinderella script). I would like any specific scripts if you know of any. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :o) |

I will recommend my old favorites: Paul Sills' Story Theater and More Story Theater. Wonderful fractured fairytales. Linda |

We also did Cinderella a few years ago. Younger kids would love that. Something they know. Our (high school age) children's theatre did Annie a few years back? Good for a large cast of girls. We also did the Wiz, where the scarecrow, tin man and lion could be cast from girls. Does it have to be "known" name show? I have found a lot of good scripts (for large casts) from Pioneer Drama. The royalties are usually less, and the shows are very good. They have a great search feature on their site. |

There is a really lovely treatment of "The Secret Garden" (NOT the musical!) written for school aged casts. I believe it is the Sterling version and that it is handled by Dramatic Publishing, who publish scripts mostly geared to school groups. This version of the play includes all the usual suspects, and when I directed it I used 8th through 12th graders, having girls take on a few of the male roles (with approval, of course, and very successfully I might add!). Dramatic Pub. has an on-line catalog, so you might want to check there, and if you're not interested in this show maybe you'll find another one that fits your needs.
