Hello everyone. I am wondering if anyone out there has any thoughts or experiences to share regarding membership in more than one CT at a time, particularly if you're involved w/ the board at one.
Thanks |

Most of our members belong to at least 5 other groups.
In a lot of cases they are members of a number of different boards as well. |

Same here. Served as president for one board, and was on the programing committee for another. I directed in both places. The only thing that made me uncomfortable was directing while being on the programming committee. It didn't bother anyone else though. Linda |

Same here as well. There's rarely any conflicts and it's actually encouraged. I think groups will always have their share of core members (which are becoming harder to find these days) and those that perfom or direct show to show with different groups and don't do much else (which is sadly becoming more of the norm). |

I have actually done just about everything for one theater from acting, sound, asst. dir., direct, and assorted other duties as needed including serving on the board. I was recently cast in my first show with another CT that has asked me to join. I just wondered if anyone had run into problems with this, and what to watch out for so that there won't be a problem. I didn't mean to ask about just jumping from theater to theater without giving anything back beyond your own personal favorite position. Sorry if this sounds snippy, it's just that really bugs me too and it's what I'm wanting to avoid. |

I have only seen problems arising in country towns or regional
areas in the bush. Where by members have been ostracised for being in a
show in the next town. But all of that was years ago & while there
is still a bit of this pathetic attitude around, even in the city. It
doesn?t seem to raise it?s head these days.

Thanks everyone for your responses, it is definitly country here but the two theaters are about an hour apart and have no rivalry known to me so I think all is well.

I used to work(SM) for a director who got really upset at me for doing a show for someone else in a different theatre whe this guy was not doing a show. He sent a letter to the whole company stating I had been disloyol to him and that I would no longer be his SM. It was a very nasty letter and half his cast walked out on him because of it. Granted he was pretty hard to work for and I was the only SM who would work for him. He moved off to the big city to be a big time director. He is waiting tables now. I belong to several CT's now and everyone is happy. My day job is with the only Theatrical supply house in the state so everyone is very happy to have me.
