I am looking for a good, reasonable place to rent painted backdrops. Particularly, I need an old London skyline. Maybe with St Paul's dome or similar. I have done several searches on the web and come up with very little, so if you have a reliable source, please let me know. Thanks. |

Marty, I happened into this site and thought I should reply to your inquiry. I am the scenic artist at Kenmark, Inc. We have approximately 600 backdrops in rental inventory and also do custom work. Our website with online catalog is www.kenmark-inc.com. Phone# (913) 648-8125. Best of luck. |

Marty, You can also check with Tobins Lake Studio in Brighton Michigan. Having dealt with both Kenmark and Tobin, Kenmark drops seem to be more show specific, while Tobins are basically generic.

It's too late for the original post...but if anyone else is interested in renting scrims or painted drops at very reasonable prices ($195 for 2 weeks for most) try: http://www.studio-productions-inc.com/rental_order.html Its not publicized on the site, but this company will even paint you custom scrim drops--and if the drop is re-rentable, they will RENT you that drop. They also sell inexpensive scrims and will advise you on the use of those scrims: 1-800-359-2964 A 15'x30' scrim is $450 (or $530 flame resistant treated)...beat that! Better yet, you can get a scrim in about a week. http://www.studio-productions-inc.com/rental_order.html |

Hi - I'm the scenic artist mentioned above, and I just ran across this discussion board. It might be a little late to help the member looking for a London drop, but I've just started my own backdrop rental business at www.selectbackdrops.com... where coincidentally, you'll find a London drop. I hope you'll check out my site when you're next looking for a drop to rent. Richard |

I realise this is an old topic & it has well &
truely pegged out by now.
But I ran across this site, which is no good to anyone
there. But I thought it was quite innovative with it's 'sectional Backdrops';-
http://www.backdrops.com.au/functions/page/493
From what I gather they use zippers & paint the drop
ib such a way, it can be unzipped & broken down to fit most venues from the
large venues to the village hall.
I have seen one, bought would imagine it to be a great
idea, as even the tie on header & tail pocket are detachable & can fit
on to various size cloth sections.
Not that I'm going to try to attach zippers on to a back
drop cloth any time soon. But it worth considering when making your own drop
cloths. Although I think velcro would be easier to apply, than a zipper, so it
has a lot of potential.
Just a thought
