In our upcoming production of Little Shop of Horrors, the florist's is
"closed for rennovation" and the shop goes from looking old and dilapidated to looking fresh and new. We've thought of putting up false "cracks" in the walls or fake "peeling paint" that could be taken down right after the supposed rennovation. Any thoughts on doing this? Thanks, Adrene |

Hmmm...well, we've gone from opulent to ramshackled in a melodrama -- took down draperies that were hiding "cracked and peeling" walls that were revealed in the second act, took down fancy woodwork, etc. The bottom two pictures on this link show the contrasting sets. Maybe it can help... |

I don't know if this will work in your space. There's a set that I helped to paint. Show opens tomorrow. To show two different rooms they have a two-sided panel mounted on a turntable of sorts with a pole going up the middle. Flat is painted on both sides. Each side different.

A similar approach would be to build the set and then add detachable panels that conceal or reveal the effect you're after.
