I
am looking for the special bottles that are bottom heavy and concave
for the bottle dance in "Fiddler" Please contact me if you know
where they can be found.

I have seen a couple of productions and was in one and they all used
regular bottles. All it takes is a lot of practice. We
tried weighting the bottles with shot held in place with melted wax but
the actors had better luck with just plain old wine bottles.

I always used regular bottles as well. They are eaiser and less expensive to replace if one gets broken!( and I'm sure one will)

If you don't want to use regular, you can get these hats and bottles with velcro on them. When my highschool did fiddler, that's what we used.

I might add that when we did Fiddler, the bottle dancers were played by
high school kids. The first time they made it through without a
bottle falling off, the cast applauded more than the audience - we knew
how hard they had worked on it. It was one of those magical
theater moments.

We used magnets- one in the bottle and one attached to the inside of the hat. They never fell off.

We have always done the dance with glass wine bottles!
It takes practice & the dancers become very adept in catching them before they hit the stage. I think we only had a couple that actually broke, all the rest bounced & none shattered. The other warm props quickly cleaned up the glass. Also it adds to the punters appreciation, if they can see, they are not held to the hats. |
