Hi, This fall our auditorium will be shut down. I am looking for a show that could be done in a space that has no sound system, curtain, lighting, etc. Basically just a big open space. I am open to a murder mystery, comedy, etc, but I need to have a fairly large cast. Any thoughts and ideas would be great. I have looked at the old post and have written down quite a few suggestions. I will do some research on those. Finding a good script is very difficult for me, so any help would be gret. Thanks, Alice

A big space that has no curtain, lighting, or sound
system? Large cast? Hmm. It appears you just
described the conditions at Shakespeare's Globe
Theatre. If it worked for him, it just might work for
you.

I recently saw a fabulous production of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged" produced by a small town high school with a "cast of thousands" as opposed to the three actors it is written for. It would work well in the space you described, I think.

what was Complete Works like with a big cast? The three guys
playing all the parts is such a big part of the humor in that play -
is it still funny with a large cast? How did they divide it up? Did
guys still play the female roles?

Heh heh - frankly, I'm surprised they were given the performing
rights to do it that way!

She used the three guys, but then when it came to the scenes she used the 'cast of thousands'. Some of the female parts were played by men, (of course Juliet). But most of the female parts were played by girls. It was very funny. It was the second time I had seen it, the first time at a community theatre were it was done as written with just the three guys, but this was far funnier and far better produced. There was tons of choreography which is this young teacher's specialty. Very energetic. Very saucy.
