Disney's Aladdin- Dual Language Edition. Anybody do this or look at it? We're pondering doing it this summer as our community has an extremely high Spanish speaking population which is never well represented at our shows. Plus it utilizes kids, which is always a great way to make money.
My concern is that I think it's adapted directly from Aladdin Jr, which is probably going to be a little too juvenile for our company- our last two shows were Chicago (big hit) and Guys and Dolls (total flop). Anybody have any thoughts to offer? We'll get the perusals in next week, but hands on experience trumps a cold script. |

I'd be very curious about that answer as well. We also have a big Spanish speaking population which to be honest is probably barely represented at all at our shows.
Off the subject, do you have any ideas about why Chicago succeeded while Guys and Dolls did not? |

I can't say for sure since I wasn't around last year, but I think it was better everything: better casting (knowing the voice of the actor cast in the male lead, I'd tend to agree), better direction, and MUCH better promotion.
Plus, honestly, while our community isn't really well versed in theatre, they do tend to know film. The high school did Les Mis this past year and made a killing. I suspect that played a part in the success of Chicago. When Fox releases their remake of Guys and Dolls, I'd assume it would play better in our community. Over three performances, I think Guys and Dolls brought in 180 people TOTAL, while Chicago brought in over 400, which approaches record numbers for us. |
