I have two strong actresses who I'd like to find a vehicle for them to play sisters (Not 3 Sisters or anything Shakespeare.)  Prefer something in the public domain since we like to get creative with our approach.  Large cast is fine but we (like many groups) have more women than men.

What age range? 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's?

And what, precisely, do you mean by "creative"? Statements like that (to borrow a line from the movie French Kiss) "make my a** twitch".

Posterior twitching aside, a good translation of Lysistrata might work for you. That's the ancient Greek comedy where the women on both sides of an ongoing conflict withhold sex from their husbands until they agree to stop the war. I only know of it, I've never read or seen it, but it's supposed to be pretty darn good as Greek comedies go - and you could be as "creative" as you want. (I'm assuming there must be at least two strong women's roles in it.)

I've seen Lysistrata done by a local college theater group here some years ago.  There are MANY great roles in that show.  Depending upon your numbers there are a lot of characters in the show....both men and women.  Of course there are principals and secondaries but it's such a fun show that everybody has a chance at the spotlight.  It IS VERY funny - or can be played a bit campy without damaging it too much I'd say.  But I laughed heartily at it.  Although the subject matter is hilarious it's tongue-in-cheek often and a little more sophisticated (again depending upon how you play it) but can be played strictly for the laughs or a little "straight" and let the language and style come through -- because it is funny either way.  Good luck with your choices.

"A little more sophisticated" -

Well... all the male characters are walking around with giant erections the entire play, so I guess it all goes to your definition of sophisticated humor. Gotta love the Greeks!

Well I WAS thinking more about the "language" than the visuals but yeah, I know.  Sophisticated as the Greeks ever got I guess.  But the language is not what we're used to hearing. That's primarily what I meant.  And you CAN under-do the erection thing such that it's not overly offensive - but without it - it certainly wouldn't be as funny.LOL

Saw "Messiah on the Frigidaire" a couple of weeks ago. The two female leads are not sisters, but their relationship is as close as siblings. For a comedy, it's got some demanding scenes for an actress. Not public domain though.

How about "Trash"? Drama for two sisters in their 20's/30's.
