I'm curious about what other people have in their "green room" kit - the bag of stuff for last minute, between scene emergencies and touchups. Mine is expanding, but still (I'm sure) incomplete.
Any other obvious ones? I don't mean things like cell phones or makeup - those are pretty much given. This is just the bag I need backstage to pin clothes shut or redo my hair quickly. |

I couldn't begin to list the items in my box. OK, just took a peek. Among things not on your list, hot glue and matches, zip strips (wire ties) elastic, electric tape in black white and red, superglue (works good for cuts too) eye wash, rubber bands, a multitool, batteries, felt tips in a couple colors, a little stapler. Would be scary to empty it out someday...

Matches for the hot glue.
Deodorant is in with my make-up.
Mouthwash would be good for some things.....have to get some.

Topper, good point on the mouthwash. One of the gents I worked with last month had really bad breath, to the point that another actress started bringing tic-tacs and breath spray "for everyone to use". Wouldn't want to be guilty of that myself, and they'll last a LONG time.
Majicwrench, great idea. I never would have thought to use them for the hot glue. I pretty much always have a lighter on hand, would that work or are the matches more precise? |

I'm a bit surprised - no-one mentioned it and it's anybody's number one tool.........yes, I'm talking about DUCT TAPE, DUCT TAPE - there's always room for DUCT TAPE!!!
NEVER leave home without some!! HAHA!!

Another friend recommended double-sided tape, you can pick it up at a dollar store. Already have it in my kit now which, as it turns out, is too small!

Yeah, but if I see a roll of duct tape on my stage, I'll probably throw it out before it gets a chance to ruin something. Duct tape doesn't come off very well. Spend a little extra and buy gaffer tape. Gaffer tape is in the same family as Duct tape it is just a little better made. It can still cause some destruction, but you stand a better chance of getting it off clean.
If you peal tape back upon itself instead of pulling it up you are less likely to pull the paint off. When removing wires that have been taped down use this technique to remove the tape first instead of pulling up on the wire. It will come off much cleaner and the tape is less likely to wrap around the wire and stick to itself making it harder to remove.
On a side note, some people call Duct tape Duck tape. This may be OK. The story I heard was that what we call Duct tape was originally used to seal up ammunition boxes in WW1. It sealed them so good that the boxes would float like a duck. Thus the name :-)

You are SOOOO RIGHT David - I just lump that term into the duct tape category - I actually really meant GAFFERS TAPE - I know the destruction caused by duct tape - some nasty stuff. But you're right - thanks for the correction - so much better....but as you say STILL can present some problem but not anywhere near as much. However in a pinch.......no never mind - don't want to give BAAAAD mojo information to those unsuspecting people who might use it and then hate me forever for suggesting it.
