Topic: Licensing Fees for MTI's BroadwayJr. Shows Posted: 2/08/12 at 12:56pm |
Hello all -
I'm attempting to put together a show proposal for a job interview tomorrow. Part of the proposal includes a budget, but I'm running into a brick wall when budgeting for the license. I'm proposing one of MTI's BroadwayJr. shows - which I've never done before. I can't get an estimate from MTI on the licensing fee unless I file a licensing application. I can't file a licensing application because I don't have an account with MTI. I can't get an account because I'm a freelancer, not associated with a theatre. I don't need an exact quote, I just need a general idea for my budget. Right now I'm using figures from licensing full-length MTI shows, but it would be much better if I could use more realistic figures. Can anyone clue me in on licensing a BroadwayJr. show? Are the showkits rented materials (as with a full-length musical) that need to be returned? Is the deposit the same? I know no-one can give me an official estimate, but some idea of how it works would help a lot. Thank you!! |

Too many unknowns here. MTI licenses based on the number of seats in your auditorium, ticket price, number of performances, and a number of other variables.
For example, our show this year was two performances, approx. 400 seats, $5 per ticket, and we are a school. I don't recall the exact breakdown, but licensing and rentals came up to $1000, including a $200 deposit. I've never done a Jr show, so I don't know if that varies. If you need more info, I'd suggest just calling MTI. they might be able o help if they know your situation. Edit: just re-read your original post and realized you already knew all of this. Carry on. Nothing to see here. Edited by MusicManD - 2/09/12 at 1:06am |

We're doing "Annie Jr." right now. Our auditorium seats about 800. We are charging $6 a ticket. We are a middle school.
Total cost for the whole package is $590. This includes the rights to perform the show an unlimited number of times within a time frame (several months, I think). We are doing three performances. The package includes 30 students scripts (booklets which have space in the back for autographs), a CD with demo vocals as well as performance tracks, a DVD with choreography, curriculum connections, etc. It's a sweet deal. To be safe, I would suggest asking for $1000. |
