Topic: Prison Wall "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me" Posted: 9/18/11 at 10:03pm |
Hello,
This winter my company is producing "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me", for those of you who don't know the play it is about 3 men (an american, an englishmen, and an irishmen) all trapped in a small prison cell. I want to make the prison walls crumbling and old look. I know quite a bit about set construction but no much of scenic painting. How would one go about this? Flats, real cinderblocks, styrofoam? Second question. I am well aware of how many times this has been discussed but I can never seem to get a straight answer. The show is a new school auditorium, smoke will set of the alarms, I want to use a hazer. What are the best ways to get around this. Thanks, Jack Edited by JSerio - 9/18/11 at 10:04pm |

Not sure if you have done the show yet, but I think for the walls, Styrofoam would be your best bet. You do have to paint it with latex first if you are going to use any kind of spray paint effects. You can use a spray contact cement numbered 77 to put the pieces together or a latex caulking. As for the hazer, I would contact the fire department and see if the alarms can be deactivated during the show. Or see if they will work with you while you test different ventilation ideas to minimize the spread of the haze.

instead of a hazer, you might want to give dry ice a try. I have the same issue being in a high school and they will not or are unable to "turn off" those points for the theater space.... and I have been told not to using a hazer as well.
While it might not give you the exact look you want, you might be able to at least get close. |
