warning - this is a grumble asking for help.
In addition to running our school's stage and the after-school crew, I've been teaching a technical stage class for ten years now - drafting, construction techniques, rigging, lighting, sound, and stage management. It's the only one like it in my disctrict, and I've had kids from my class & crew go to Columbia & McGill for tech stage, and lots of kids working on other decks for community theatre. They're pretty well prepared for going elsewhere by the time they are done. I'm not licensed in this (I'm a music teacher but have a pretty extensive background in technical stage work - mostly the school of hard knocks).
Problem - my district has decided to red-flag me as far as teaching the class goes, so I need to get certified to teach the class. Any suggestions of schools that have certifications in tech stage NOT at the level of getting yet another masters' degree? Looking in the upper midwest; would prefer a summer program but would do a nights/weekends if that's all there was. Help!
Mike

What state? In my state, for example, you'd need either a speech and drama certification or some sort sort of technical/drafting cert to teach a class like that.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if your state has a certification in something as specific as technical theatre. |
