bullet Topic: Looking for 1m+1f piece
    Posted: 11/08/10 at 3:20pm
Greetings, folks.  I have about 6 weeks with no project coming up (horror!) so my girlfriend and I were thinking about cobbling something together to fill the gap.  Looking for a 1m+1f piece, we're both in our 30s, so age-appropriateish would be helpful.

I've got a handful of prospectives from going through the Samuel French listing online, but nothing's jumping out on me yet.

"Talley's Folly" by Lanford Wilson (Dramatists Play Service) is a pretty darn good show.  Excellent "character" opportunity.

Six one-act plays and one full-length listed here.
The full length play is set in London in the 1960s [though written a year or so ago], so might need a bit of adaptation to an American context.

First Night
[8119]
 $6.50

Jack Neary

Romantic comedy

1m, 1f

Interior

This bright, warm, wise comedy about dreams, life and love occurs on New Year's Eve. Danny Fleming is waiting to close up the video store where he works. The only prospect the new year holds for him is an unsigned contract in his pocket that would make him manager of his own video outlet. An hour before closing Meredith O'Connor or Sister Meredith Louise walks in. In the eighth grade, Danny fell in love with Meredith, but she went out of his life to pursue her vocation. Now she's back and the sparks fly when Danny learns she has left the convent to seek him out. It is a night to remember as Danny realizes dreams aren't something to hold at arm's length.

"A psychological boxing match that escalates into frenzy with ridiculous speed.... Neary keeps the characters and the encounter fresh.... Honestly funny." - The Boston Globe

FEE: $75 per performance.

We did this play a few years ago - it's quite funny - and it had a good response - we ended up taking it to AACT Festival.

Worth checking out.

I agree with First Night.  Cute show.  Also look at Marriage Is Murder.

Oh, excellent -- First Night caught my eye browsing through the Samuel French catalog, I had it on my short list.  Just ordered a copy.

Got First Night in the mail yesterday, so we cuddled up on the couch last night and read it through.  GAH!  Adorable!  Love it!  And the characters are an excellent fit for us.  I think we have a winner, going to run it past the church where we're prospecting running it today.

Interesting though -- I got my copy via amazon.com marketplace, and it's not the Samuel French copy, I'm guessing it's an earlier release ... didn't notice anything in there about an unsigned contract... I wonder how different the SF version is.

"Montana Love Story: Charlie and Nancy Russell" by Robert L. Yowell. A wonderful play about one of America's great artists. It is in the "Love Letters" genre. No set needed or pros. Just appropriate costumes for the period. To contact the playwright, go to: robert.yowell@nau.edu

Odd, then -- sounds like SF needs to actually read the play before writing the synopsis.

Also interesting -- you can license through Baker's Plays or SF.  French is $75 per performance; Baker's is $60.
