Hello All,

I have a small stage. Would prefer a single simple set, and small cast. Need a romantic play for Valentine's day run.
Any suggestions would help.

Of course, this all depends on your idea of romance (and your definition of a small cast).

Take a look at Hair of the Dog by Molly McClusky for a cast of 7 (5 with doubling)
or Date with Destiny by Karen Doling, for a cast of 10.

I've got one you might like -

Anna and August (one-act, 2 male, 2 female (up to 8 actors), no set
It's a romance over time, starts when they're six, ends up when they're graduating from high school, so you need 2 youngish leads.

"Anna is the smartest girl in the school. She's also a purple belt in Tae Kwon Do and has a devastating punch. Strangely enough, she has trouble meeting boys. Except one: August, who seems to appreciate her weirdness. Unfortunately, the course of weird love never did run smooth."

I have another full-length romatic comedy, The Matchmakers, but the cast requirements (13) are probably more than what you're looking for. If you're interested here's the blurb:

"After a lame homecoming date at Wendy's and the dissolution of her parents' marriage, Bree begins to think that she's been cursed. When her mother declares that she's going to marry her loathsome marriage counselor, she's almost certain. And when she starts falling for that marriage counselor's geeky, awkward son, she's convinced. The Matchmakers is a wild, romantic comedy, complete with a strange clown, blind dates, and a swordfight."

I highly recommend "Somewhere In Between" by Craig Pospisil (Dramatists Play Service).  It's funny, sweet, smart, slightly goofy, and genuinely heartwarming.  An urban romantic comedy in ten scenes.  There are about a dozen roles, but it's written to be performed by as few as six actors - 3M, 3W.  Single set representing a general urban setting.  The leads are mid to late twenties, the others are flexible.

Oh, and for something I didn't write, check out Almost, Maine by John Cariani. Guaranteed to make your audience go "awwww!"

That's a great show, too.  We did that a couple of years ago and had good response.

If you were to do it, you should spend the extra to get the production music written and recorded for the show.

It would help if you could be more specific about your needs in terms of running time, cast size, your audience demographic, etc.

Cheers,

I would also suggest you look at Almost, Maine. It sounds like just what you're looking for. Small cast, small stage, perfect for Valentines Day.
