Topic: Adult Shows with Roles For A Couple Fo Kids Posted: 6/28/10 at 1:34pm |
I posted this request last year and got a really good suggestion, so I thought I would try again this year.
I am on the Play Advisory Committee of Midwestern US community theatre. On top of our normal line-up of shows, we try to throw in one small to medium sized non-musical that is primarily adult-based but has a couple of roles for kids/teens. I am looking for a couple of shows that meet that criteria. Because there are so many good shows out there, we try not to repeat shows that we have already done. Here is a list of similar shows that we have already done: Cheaper By The Dozen Lost In Yonkers Little Women Over the Tavern Life With Father The show already scheduled for next season that was suggested here is: A Tiny Miracle With A Fiberoptic Unicorn. It is perfect for us as it is set in a town adjacent to our own. For future reference, are there any play script databases that have the capability to search for a show like this? Any assistance would be appreciated. |

Have you considered doing a night of two one-acts? I have one other play that fits your bill, in much the same spirit as Tiny Miracle - although I think the roles for adults are smaller. It's more focused on the teens. It's called Anna and August and you can read it online for free here:
(cast of 4-8 people, 4 teenagers, 4 adults)
I've been wracking my brain trying to think of something someone else wrote for you - The Nerd has one kid in it, Brighton Beach Memoirs is the obvious choice - Night, Mother?
I don't know if there's a database for this or not.
BFE by Julia Cho from a few years ago. You need an asian teenager, though.
I'll keep thinking.
Don.

How about "I Remember Mama"?
Maybe "The Matchmaker"? - Ermengarde, Ambrose, and Minnie Fay could easily be (mid-to-late) teens. I mentioned it earlier under another thread, but "A Midsummer Night's Dream" might work very handily - the young lovers, and Puck, and a couple of the "rustics" could easily be youths. I'll keep thinking, too... |

Actually, what am I thinking? I have a brand new play called, of all things, "The Matchmakers." It's a romantic comedy.
"After a lame homecoming date at Wendy's and the dissolution of her parents' marriage, Bree begins to think that she's been cursed. When her mother declares that she's going to marry her loathsome marriage counselor, she's almost certain. And when she starts falling for that marriage counselor's geeky, awkward son, she's convinced. The Matchmakers is a wild, romantic comedy, complete with a strange clown, blind dates, and a swordfight."
Here's the link to to it:
There are 7-8 roles for adults, 4-5 for teenagers.
As always, click on read sample to read it online for free.
I am dumb.

There's also Our Town by Thornton Wilder.
Or maybe Tom Stoppard's brilliant time-bending comedy/drama Arcadia. Or Ah, Wilderness. Edited by edh915 - 6/29/10 at 7:51pm |
