I haven't read the script yet but from the clips i have seen and the things I've heard about this show It sounds great. Has anyone had experience with this show? How appropriate is it...are there any huge technical challenges etc. It seems like something the teenagers in my area would get a kick out of, as well as the adults because of the music. Oh, and our stage is rather small, is that going to be a problem? I would love to have some of your input before I pitch this to our board.
Thanks! |

I saw this in its original off-Broadway production.
It is terrific! Very funny - and lots of music. There is some tech stuff - but, frankly, the tackier, the better. And the stage used for the original production was about 14'square. I loved it. I've only seen one amateur production (I don't know why it's not produced more often), and it was also a lot of fun. One tip: The music isn't all that easy. I did this play at our high school several years ago. It was one of our biggest hits EVER! We had great fun being creative with the sets and all the special effects. We used a screen and made some fake B-sci fi movies as well as used live shots during musical numbers. I had some students with great musical gifts, and they really had a chance to show off! I also saw this show done at a professional Shakespearian theatre with hardly any tech at all, and it was a big hit there as well! I don't know why no one does this show--it's AWESOME!!!

You can see a song list via google as well as links to a couple videos. Does anyone know the ASCAP/BMI requirements for this show? Now I'm interested in pitching it, too, looks like a lot of fun!

I know nowt about the BMI ASCAP arrangements for this show, but it may be a good idea to check out your ACCT website for details on the ASCAP licence coverage;-
ASCAP Agreement I'm sure BMI would have covered their 'R Send' by including a blanket cover in the fees. However you may need to still ensure your venue has a general ASCAP licence as well. Edited by JoeMc - 4/28/10 at 10:55pm |
