Topic: sourcing a salon Posted: 3/01/10 at 5:58am |
So I'm currently designing a piece which is meant to be based within a luxurious hair salon. I was wondering, does anyone have any tricks for making things (basic furniture for example) look more expensive than they are. The budget is minimal but the final look needs to be expensive.
Also does anyone know of anywhere in the North of England that can provide me with hood dryers, or other salon equipment, or share any good methods of making? |

Luxe looks - I think this can be broken down to a sophisticated color palette (if it's supposed to be really sophisticated) and Luxe looking finishes.
A lot can be achieved by making sure all your furniture has been touched up and looks good, not like you just pulled it out furniture storage, and really good finishing on items that get recovered in more luxe looking fabrics. Make sure that even when that second coat looks ok, remember that a 3rd coat of paint makes it even better.
The other way to go is to commit completely to an over the top decor scheme - this does not mean- 'oh a little of this makes it look asian, a little of that makes it tropical, I mean every single item must be given a treatment to make it special. And the finishes still have to be perfect.
as far as salon equipment, some of the high end stuff is very conceptual, so you might be able to bodge something that looks really out there, and sell it as the latest and greatest, without needing to get the real equipment. (like you could lower a 'hood' from the ceiling, with a 'control pad' on the sytlists station.) The cutting chairs are going to be the biggest thing- see if a supplier will loan or rent items for a promotional mention in the program and on the poster.
Good luck!
