bullet Topic: Pics & vids of your theatre experiences? Stories?
    Posted: 10/24/09 at 7:06am
People in the Hollywood scene snub community theatre, to a point where I'm sometimes embarrassed to mention that I do it.  However, there's just something about working with real people that is 100% more fun than Hollywood.  Unfortunately, there isn't much footage around of the inside process, and it isn't strongly promoted in the public eye.

So, I was wondering if anyone had any pictures/videos of their experiences in community theatre at any level.
  • Sets, Scenes, Dance Sequences
  • Costuming & Makeup footage (some people in community can rival Hollywood)
  • Good or bad singing (always fun to watch)
  • Bloopers & funny moments (Love these)
  • Audition & rehearsal (very tough to get these)
On a personal level, I'm producing a small film titled Making of a Musical which is made from footage of my own adventures at a small theatre.  I am still writing the story so I need ideas and inspiration from other peoples' experiences.  I enjoy laughing at theatre bloopers (they're very rare to find), neat stories, extraordinary performances, or just watching an every day person struggling with learning a tough song/dance.

In the hopes that there are others like me who can share their own  adventures in a theatre, I figured I'd start this off.  It features a cinematic glimpse of my own community theatre and some of the moments we've gone through.  I believe it will remind some of you of what it was like when you first started out

I'd really like to see what others out there have experienced.  If you've captured it on film or a pic, would love to see.  Or if you have any stories of any tensions you experienced (problems with other cast members, being competitive, being an underdog trying to prove yourself), it will give me ideas as I write out more of a story.

We chronicle and archive every production these days, including the cast and crew lists (and if you click on a name, a short bio and a photo of the person come up - IF they opt for it, of course), the program, and a wealth of photos taken throughout the rehearsal schedule, including dress rehearsals, and sometimes even the cast party.  Unfortunately, earlier productions (shows before the 2000 - 2001 season) don't have much information and/or photos available.  We're still trying to research the shows produced in many of the earlier seasons.  An example of what we do now would be :

It's a good way for the casual visitor to see how a show progresses, and after all, shouldn't a community theatre web site offer good memories for all the people who worked so hard on a show and those who really enjoyed watching the result?

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.
