Community Theater Green Room Discussion Board: break away glass

Message

   I am doing Calamity Jane in community theater. She is supposed to hold a glass or bottle and have someone shoot is from her hands. Not doable on the stage. Any sugesstions?

	Hi Shelley, I make breakaway Bottles for SMASHProps.com We had a similar request and the easiest way we determined to do it was, using one of our breakaway bottles, the actor just gave the bottle a bit of a squeeze on cue, and the bottle explodes into pieces. Timed right, the effect is quite believable. The bottles take very little force to break. One note for the actor is to not be looking at the bottle at the time it's "Shot" provides bit of misdirection to help sell it. We sell bottles at half the cost of other manufactures and we are actively working with the theatre community to create better and cheaper breakaway props.
