Topic: My first production Posted: 8/25/09 at 4:43pm |
Well, after many years of watching and thinking, I have finally decided to take the toe out of the water and jump on in. Auditions on Thursday for my first musical production.
The first thrill was receiving the orchestrations. Received them before the rest of the materials. Long story. Thrills, chills and spills. Bit of a knot in the tummy. It was like a big box that said there is no turning back now. As Robert Frost said... Miles to go before I sleep. Any pointers learned from your first go rounds would surely be appreciated. Thanks, Mark |

Be organized and prepared. 75% of your work should be done before rehearsals start. Anything that can be done in advance should be done. Especially have your staff in place, and their working timeline. Production meetings, designs, and vision should already be communicated. The music director, choreographer, stage manager, and you should meet often throughout the rehearsal process. Keep your spirits up. Be positive. Thank people often. |

If you haven't done so already, surround yourself with a strong production staff. You can't do it all yourself, so you need to have people around you who you can count on to do their part.
If you work a full time job and have some vacation time available, schedule it during production week! Dan |
