We looked at this a couple of years ago, but had to change our plans.

For those that have done this show ... did you do it with only 5 people or did you (could you) incorporate more people?

I have one person that has the voice, but he's a bit older and definitely won't be able to dance.  I thought if I could split some of the songs up it might make it a bit easier.

Also ... just HOW much dancing would really be needed.  I think someone once told me maybe 6 to 8 songs.  (I need to search the archives.)

We're a small community so anything to make this easier would be helpful.

Thanks -

We did this show several years ago and cast it with just 5 people.  As I recall there's really not all that much "dancing" (though an ambitious, and crazy, choreographer can turn anything into a complex dance number if they want).  An actor who moves reasonably well should be able to handle it I would think.  Best thing about that show is all the great music and some simple but clever staging serves the show nicely in my opinion.

You could expand the cast to more than five, but I found one of the interesting things about the show was how the songs progress.  They start out with young excited infatuation, that progresses to love then to we've built a lifetime together.  So having the same small number of actors do various songs as the show progresses actually allows them to do some character development (a rare thing in a revue).  That's just my two cents.

Thank you for your thoughts.

It's the one CD that stays in my car ... always.  I love the way they have updated the arrangements.  In Kansas City I get that Manhattan Transfer feeling ... and then there's an Andrew's Sister thing.  I can't get enough of it.

I guess we'll have to see what we get in terms of space and auditions.
