Hey, I agree. You really have to be very careful about copyright laws. The owners of copyrights can come after your theatre, and not only does it get shut down, but all of your board and sponsors can be sued as well. We recently did West Side Story, and we could not record it at all, even for private use. It was tempting to do so, and sad that we could not, because we often are able to produce a video for the kids to have as a keepsake. It's just not worth the risk though.

For Violet, buy a children's sumo Halloween costume just after the holiday. You might get it half or 75% off! Put her in a light weight costume and the battery powered fan will "blow her up." We had her run around the large "gum" machine as she was growing and exchanged her with a 4 foot beach ball dressed in the same fabric. The audience howled! Then the Oompas rolled her out into the audience down the aisle and out the side door during their song.
Mike TV jumped through a frame covered in black stretchy fabric (split up the middle) as the "camera" turned and "blinded" the audience. He then appeared as a small doll in the same outfit inside the large TV. Another crowd pleaser.
Grandpa and Charlie "floated" by climbing both sides of a black ladder in front of a black background. They practiced hanging on with one foot and one hand as they dipped and moved their free arms and legs around making it look as if they were floating.
Hope this is helpful!

Dan -
We're in Milwaukee, WI, and are producing Willy Wonka in March 2010. Are your set pieces still available? I would be willing to drive a truck up to pick up and return the pieces.
Thank you.

I am directing a production of Willy Wonka on a small high school auditorium stage. Does anyone have any set ideas that have been successful on a small stage? Pics would be absolutely great!

I'm doing Willy Wonka in April. We are going to double the grandparents' bed with the boat. The back of the headboard can be painted for the boat and the kids can sit on it when in the boat. We are going to try caster wheels for easy moving.
