bullet Topic: Bad Year For Tomatoes

Hi!

I was looking at doing A BAD YEAR FOR TOMATOES. We have a small stage with limited set resources at this time. What kind of set can you do this show on at bare minimum?

Thanks!
Brian

You need the doors--two, I think.  One of them is a dutch door (top opens separately from the bottom) that is used for a curtain line at the end of the first act, but you could probably just open a regular door and step in.  We had a 30 inch tall set of stairs that I think makes the show easier to run. We didn't have a railing, just the stairs that went off upstage right.

The funiture requirement are minimal although we used a coffee table to crack the nuts so people could see them being whacked.  A side table could be use if necessary.  We had a love seat and 2 chairs with a side table between.  I think there was a rocking chair, too, maybe it could be one of the 2 chairs.

It's a cute show.  We've done it twice to great response.

Using a tape recorder for part of the dialog is about the most difficult part as it won't "hold" for laughs or at least we couldn't get it to.

We did this show two years ago and the audience loved it. Here is a link to pictures from our dress rehearsal. It could have easily been done with a smaller stage. It was a fun play to do.

RE the recorded bits of BYFT: My group are  running lights and sound with a computer program. By recording both scenes in one take; transferring them into Adobe Audition; slicing each line into a separate cue and then loading them into computer's cue list as sound cues, the operator can easily adjust the timing each cue as required
once more into the breach, dear friends, and damned be he who first cries hold, enough
