Chatting with the audience BEFORE the curtain? I don't even like them to do it AFTER the curtain.
And reassign parts?!?!?! WHAT? Does that not somewhat defeat the purpose of, um, auditions?! - and having a director? How long has this group been around? |

It shouldn't be in the by-laws. However, you may want to develop an actors' contract. We use them, though it is not really a contract. It is more of a list of expectations. Not visting audience members prior to the show could be included.
Our contract has things like:
Be on time for rehearsals. If you'll be late call the stage manager.
Pick up after yourself.
Hang your costumes.
No food or drink in costume except for water
Only cast and crew are allowed back stage at anytime.
Call is 90 minutes before curtain.
Mic check is 60 minutes before curtain
House opens 30 minutes before curtain
That is just a sampling.
But it does lay out the rules and expectations to everyone and eventually builds a culture.

This is one of the most bush league things I have ever heard of in community theater. Who do these "actors" think they are re-assigning roles? Do they wave to thier friends during the show? What back water and uncivilized place is this? I'd like to progam into my GPS as a place to avoid.

I agree that is not good. And trust me, these type of people are not in any more productions. Anyway, thanks to everyone who had insight on what to do when things go wrong. We have made a manual that makes it clear that this type of violation will be cause for removal from productions.
