I am considering Into the Woods for my theater's 2009-2010 musical with middle school actors. Any thoughts and/or ideas for set design? Can it be done with a unit set with props, etc.?
Thanks :)

I seen the show several times but have never been involved with a production, so I can't give you specifics. But certainly you can do a unit set and dress it up. It might be nice to have a few platforms legged at various heights. It will give you a lot of variety and different acting areas to use. Then carry on pieces (furniture, etc.) for a scene.
The top most platform can be Rupunzels tower, etc.

I have only EVER seen it performed with a unit set with just a few things that rolled in and out for specific scenes (Grandmother's house, Rapunzel's tower, Cinderella's tree, etc.)
The basic set (that falls down in the giant "earthquake") is always the basic set whenever I've seen it performed. |
