What do you use for best effect - so it still looks like a mirror but doesn't bounce the light.

I find Hairspray works & is far cheaper than the Anti glare spray from Rosco or Lee filters, as suggested by Topper! However apply it like spray painting, with long even blows & from a few feet away.
You can also get silk or anti glare filters, to put in your lanterns, which also helps on focused areas..
