Topic: Disco Inferno Set-trusses? Posted: 12/20/08 at 12:54pm |
Our school's drama dep't is producing "Disco Inferno" as this spring's musical.
Leaving aside my initial reaction (those of us who lived thru it the first time don't necessarily want to do it again!), now I need to design the set.
I usually am a hammer & nails (well, screwgun, screws, and pneumatic nailer) set builder, and we usually use "Hollywood" (hard) flats & set pieces. I'm clear on how I want most of the sets designed, but I'm looking at pretty "truss" scaffolding for the nightclub scenes - for more levels, to support "onstage" club lights, etc. This is supposed to be set in late 1970's London. This "nightclub" set will be the one furthest back on the stage and will be permanent/bolted down, with all of the other scenes flown/rolled in, in front of it.
Any suggestions? I don't think industrial scaffolding will be "pretty" enough and I'm unsure about long-term use/dancing on that type of scaffolding. I'm going to be talking to some of our area stage companies but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on what/how to do for this. Has anyone used a "pretty" set of scaffolding for JCSS, maybe? Chrome would be nice . . .
Thanks!
Mike
