Is there any recommended floor paint that holds up better than others?

Any cheap locally available flat matte Plastic [Latex] paint. [Not gloss, unless you want lighting to bounce off it!]
However add PVA wood glue, which is water based to mix easily with the paint, also drys clear. period dramatically between paiperiods.
The actual mix quantity is up to you, but you can be fairly liberal with the glue.
The glue in the paint resists the scuffs & normal wear & tear. This extends dramatcly the period, before the need to paint the deck again!wood glue, which is water based & Will mix with the paint easily. also the wood glue drys clear. You will have to do a bit of experiment, with how much glue, you wish to mix in.
I'd choose the cheapest paint you can get & by adding the glue. It will be the same better than the most costly paint.
As it is a very cheap alternative that will extend the period dramatically, before it needs to be painted again.
wood glue to the paint. This will give a hard wearing surface & extend the period between painting dramatically.
You will need to experiment with the mix quantity, the glue mixes with the water base latex paint & drys clear.
You will find this is the cheapest option, to that of buying other costly paint, such as the " hard' brand, available here & in fact I wouldn't be surprised, if it is the same thing. as just added glue?

Thanks, Can you buy polyvinyl adhesive at Menards or somewhere like that. Would you say 4 parts paint one part glue?

The last time I painted our stage, i only added about 10% glue, rather than the 4:1 [20%].
This was using black paint & it was still a good paint surface colour, after about 4 years. Until we removed the stage skin for the venue refurbishment. Which has took the City council over 3 years to do & it is still not finished yet? But that's another story!
With painting the deck black, I added Cobalt blue, which was mixed up at the local hardware paint store. i got them to add a shot of the blue, for every litre of black. Which worked out well as a rough rule of the black thumb nail.
By adding the cobalt blue, this ensured the black surface did not become a washed out brownish colour, as black paint normally does.
Because the stage is highly polished T&G Jarrah [redwood] boards. We overlay a skin of MDF particle board sheets. These are just under gaffer taped, in much the same manner as you do with 'tarquette' [Marley] dance mat rolls. Which is a cheap and easy way of protecting the stage floor.
We used just ordinary kitchen squeeze mops, with the replaceable flat sponge mop heads. http://www.oatesclean.com.au/ProdView.aspx?popup=1&Category=SX602005&Product=MS-001&ProdDesc=Squeeze+Mop
Rather than a paint roller, which sprays paint & can be messy. Utilising the paint roller tray to put the paint on the mop head. Then squeeze all the excess paint into the tray.
Also i found we used less paint & if the mop head is cheap enough to replace. Especially if it has been left out & forgotten to be cleaned..
I suppose in you currency any chain store that sells hardware, like KMart, will have the PVA glue on the shelf.

Or the hardware might have a cheaper generic brand?

I use exterior house paint... It holds up incrediably well when applied in a couple of thin coats.

My director at one point thought it would be a good idea to do one hugely thick coat, and the whole floor just ended up peeling up in sheets.

Oh silly directors...

Strange how these characters believe that more is better?
A good point though SavTD about the exterior paint. Also check out with your local paint store, about the stuffed up paint, they have tint mixed up incorrectly. They usually put these buggered up paint out on special to flog off, at times. On another site they named these as 'Oops!' paint, which all paint outlets will have & they are dirt cheap.
At one comeatre group I was connected with, they had a painting contractor as a member & he would pick up heaps of oops paint, for less than a song.
I have also seen a few disasters when Groups opt to use patio paint & the like!
