Just found out "The Producers" is available for non-profits as of today - our producing director has already put in for the rights to open our 09/10 season. I'm so stoked, I feel like slapping my head and quaking like a duck!

Yes I got the email yesterday from MTI, although it is i believe being put on by a community theatre group in the eastern States.
I forwarded the email on to my mob, to see what they think!
But I see it has listed about 29 US theatre groups already received a licence to do it.

Checked out the list - no one by us - thank the Powers That Be. We won't be doing it until Aug '09 and the closest to us is Santa Rose later this year. Yea!!! We have to wait until Aug. 08 to secure the rights, but we are hopeful. Our only competition is the local college and they don't decide upon their schedule until next spring. I'm hopeful!!!

I tried to get my group to yank our Urinetown from the next season and replace it with the Producers but no go. Oh well there's always next year. I'm chomping at the bit to do this.

As are we, Patrick, we want to anchor our whole season around it, but we can't secure rights until August...sigh
Of the two, I'd want to do "Producers" over "Urinetown" - our local college did it and it didn't make that much of a showing. Of course, they did nothing to promote it either - the director was of the 'If I Put It On, People Will Come' mind. Well, he did, they didn't and now he's restricted to one small show a year...oh well...

Someone just asked at auditions today for another show if The Producers had been released. I thought that I had received an email, but I had deleted it.

Always glad to be of service to the theater community! I'm just hoping no one else grabs it before us. We'd like to be the first in town to produce it.
We'll have to see if Thespes is with us !

Music On Stage in Palatine, Illinois will be opening their season with The Producers in October, 2008. (They got the e-mail from MTI about an hour before meeting to name their season; they jumped right on it. Very few boards can move that quickly.) I will be directing the show. If you're in the Chicagoland area, I've set up a Facebook group for actors to keep track of audition/production information. Go here if you're interested:

No summer plans take me to the Chicago area (I'm in California), but thanks for the invite. That is the one nice thing about working with smaller, more receptive boards. We'd already announced and are selling our 08-09 season, so this will be for 09-10.
